Stream & Download HD Movies

May 10th, 2010

If you’re in a hurry, click here to stream and download HD movies.

Wouldn’t it be cool to watch HD movies on your computer? I don’t know about you or your situation, but until fairly recently I didn’t have a lot of money. But I really enjoyed watching movies, especially high definition movies.

For the past several months, I’ve been testing the various websites that give you instant online access to HD movies on demand. You can stream them, and in many cases, you can even download the HD movie directly to your computer for future use. And yes, this is COMPLETELY LEGAL. That’s the one thing I know you’re probably worried about — I know I was a bit worried  too.

Click here to visit the Stream Online Movies website. Take a moment to review everything you get. It’s actually a really professional website, and you can see it’s completely legitimate. I’m really happy with my decision to sign up and check it out. It’s truly a fantastic place to get movies.

Who would want to download HD movies anyway?

May 6th, 2010

If you’re in a hurry, click here to stream and download HD movies.
. . .
Not that long ago I was asked: “who would want to download hd movies anyway?” The person asking the question seemed to be implying that there might be something nefarious about doing something like this.

As you probably already know, the truth of the matter is that there are a lot of legitimate reasons why someone would want to download HD movies. But, the perception still exists that the practice is somehow illegitimate or shady. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In my experience, the #1 reason why someone would want to download hd movies is because they want to be able to watch the film on their computer — or transmit it to their hd television screen through something like AppleTV.

Here’s the bottom line: the people who would want to have access to HD movies via the Internet are no different than you and me.

Zune HD – The Future of Entertainment Has Arrived!

May 4th, 2010

With the latest Zune release Microsoft has successfully combined cloud computing with digital media to bring us the future of entertainment. While Apple is still making iPods with larger capacities, Microsoft “gets it” that the size of the hard drive no longer matters. What matters is the ability to access any song or movie, anytime from anyplace. And that’s the promise on which Zune delivers.

Zune and Cloud Computing

In order to fully grasp this concept, we must first understand what cloud computing is. I’ve adapted the following definition of cloud computing from SearchCloudComputing.com by abbreviating it and modifying it for simplicity. Brace yourself; this is going to get geeky…

“Cloud computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet. A cloud service is sold on demand, a user can have as much or as little of it as they want; and the consumer needs nothing but a personal computer [or device] and internet access to use the service.”

Sorry, I know that was dry, but necessary. No more geek-speak, I promise!

Applying this definition in the context of Zune, we see that the hosted service is the Zune Marketplace – with over 6 million songs, music videos, and podcasts and now with both standard and high definition movies.

You can access any of this content on demand. For $14.99 a month, the Zune pass allows access to an all-you-can-eat music buffet. The ability to keep 10 mp3s at the end of the month makes the Zune pass the best music subscription service on the market today. You can also buy or rent movies. Access as much or as little of these goodies as you like. You only need…

…access to the internet and a “device”. The device can be either a brand, spanking new Zune HD or a PC or an HDTV. In the future we can imagine this device spectrum to include the Xbox 360 and Windows Mobile phones.

Throw all of these ingredients together and you have one tasty entertainment salad!

Entertainment of the Future

Zune is shaping up to be a true entertainment platform – including games. The two new games added to the Zune Marketplace (chess, goo splat) are nice. But consider them a preview of what’s to come. There are rumors of 3D games on the Zune HD in the not so distant future. Eventually you can imagine the ability to play the same game at home on your Xbox 360 or on the go on your Zune HD.

Now it becomes really interesting. If you are Apple, entertainment is all about allowing the consumer to buy content from their iTunes store, download it to a PC or Mac and then transfer it to an iPod device. The buck stops there. But for Zune, the fun’s just beginning.

With Zune, you can certainly buy music and videos from the Zune Marketplace and sync it to your Zune HD. But that’s oh so 2008. Here are a few more ways you can enjoy your music and movies – “your way” – 2009 style.

A quick note – the scenarios below assume you have a Zune pass. And there is just no excuse not to [have a Zune pass].

The Zune HD comes with built in Wi-Fi – you can use it to stream unlimited music from the Zune Marketplace directly to your Zune HD. Suddenly hard drive size is no longer relevant.

Zune takes the Pandora internet radio service one step further with “Smart DJ”. It creates a custom playlist for you based off of an artist of your choice from the millions of songs from the Zune Marketplace. Witness the radio station of the future – with only songs and no ads.

If you don’t have your Zune HD handy, you still can access your music. You can stream unlimited music from the Zune Marketplace to a web browser – anywhere in the world. This is an excellent application of cloud computing in the real world.

Services like Netflix are going to become a thing of the past. You no longer need to wait for a DVD in the mail. Instead, you can rent (or buy) either standard or high definition movies from the Zune marketplace. Then you can watch them in hi-def on your Zune HD or on a PC. Or hook up your Zune HD to your HDTV and watch the same movie in hi-def on a big screen. A Blu-ray DVD player is no longer required to enjoy HD movies at home. (Netflix sees this trend and is adapting by focusing more on streaming content directly to your home over the internet.)

If you are looking for a DJ to hire for your next party, try “Smart DJ”. You can have him stream unlimited music from the Zune Marketplace over your home network to your Xbox 360. All you have to do is hook it up to your home theater system and get the party started. And the best part is that smart DJ is free.

The built-in HD radio tuner in the Zune HD unlocks access to CD quality FM stations. If you like a song, just tag it and then download it from the Zune Marketplace for free. Then share it with a friend using the Zune’s sharing feature.

And coming soon, you will be able stream HD movies from the Zune Marketplace directly to your Xbox 360 and watch them on your HDTV.

These are some ideas to get your started enjoying your media, “your way”. You can’t do this with an iPod.

Conclusion

In 2009, Microsoft has moved beyond head to head competition with Apple. While the Zune HD is a beautiful device, very comparable to the iPod Touch, the services are where Microsoft has truly changed the game. With the Zune Marketplace paired with a Zune pass, the addition of HD content and the release of the sexy Zune HD device, Microsoft has given us a glimpse of the future of digital entertainment.

And I’m ready for it! Are you?

12 Nifty Ways to Stream Internet Movies at Home

    May 4th, 2010

What if you could watch all your favorite movies and TV shows from the comfort of your home – whenever you wanted to watch them. Wouldn’t that get your pixels firing on all cylinders?

    Well, now you can!

Of course, this is nothing new, since one obvious way to do this is through your cable company which more than likely already offers On Demand movies and programs. However, there are many drawbacks to these cable services, with cost being the major concern.

But forget cable services, that’s strictly old school. Right now we are entering the dawn of a new age in home entertainment — heralding the arrival of Multiplex TV.

Mainly because we are seeing the fusion of your TV and computer screen. The marriage of your TV screen with your computer screen is fast approaching, if it hasn’t already arrived. Probably eloped while you weren’t watching; but many smart consumers have already taken note and taken advantage of these two merging entertainment forces.

Although using the Internet as a vehicle to deliver high-quality entertainment to your TV screen is still in its infancy, there are quite a number of services and products out there which will allow viewers to gain access to streaming on-demand TV programs, movies and original online content via the web. These services will greatly expand the level of your home entertainment experience and enjoyment.

So the real question is where and how do I gain access to this vast and powerful online database of streaming media?

There are numerous services you can choose from and some of them are even free, while most are subscription based. Regardless, all will provide you with more than enough content for totally enjoying online streaming media from the comfort of your home.

Here, in my opinion, are the best options available right now and a few upcoming ones you should know about.

    1. TVersity

TVersity is a free program you can download for free from tversity.com. TVersity works by installing a media server on your PC that will transmit your media to anywhere you like. In conjunction with a gaming console such as Playstation 3 or Xbox 360, TVersity will open up to you a wide variety of media from the internet. One of the main features that make TVersity so great is that it can convert your files into the correct format for easy streaming. This is very important because certain gaming consoles can only play certain file formats. TVersity eliminates any playback problems, no matter what type of media hub you’re using such as Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, iPhone, PSP, or others.

    2. Vizio’s Connected HDTVs (Coming in Fall 2009)

Vizio is planning to have their own Internet-enabled high-definition TV set which is coming out in the Fall of 2009. The details are still in the works, but these Television sets should have the capability to connect to your home internet feed, through an Ethernet connection or a wireless signal, allowing you to access all the online content providers, such as Netflix, Amazon and Blockbuster. If these TV sets actually produce even half of what they are promising, it may be a worthwhile investment and you should hold out until they are released if buying a TV is high on your list of things to do.

    3. LG’s NetCast Entertainment Access HDTV (Coming in May and June 2009)

This spring LG is introducing a Television set that has their NetCast Entertainment Access function built in. Perhaps, seeing the potential Blu-ray players have with streaming capability, LG has opted to do away with the box altogether. There will be four internet-enabled TV sets: the 42LH50 and 47LH50 LCD TVs and the 50PS80 and 60PS80 plasmas. All the television sets will allow access to Netflix, CinemaNow and YouTube; eliminating the need for alternative devices by gaining access through an Ethernet connection.

    4. Media Mall’s PlayOn Digital Media Server (Price: $40)

Media Mall is a third-party software that lets you watch Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, CBS, CNN, ESPN and more on your TV. Basically, it enhances the streaming functions of your video game console. You can run the program on your Windows PC and this allows your gaming console to access streaming data via your computer, to be displayed on your TV set. Isn’t technology wonderful?

    5. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (Price: $199 – $299; $399 – $499)

The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 are not just gaming consoles, they also have the ability to be full featured media centers. For example, Xbox 360 is capable of supporting Netflix streaming and Xbox Live MarketPlace allows for the purchasing of movies or TV shows. Playstation 3 has a similar feature, the Playstation Network Store, which you can download video content to the internal hard drive for viewing. Plus, by adding third-party software, your Xbox and Playstation 3 can be made to support internet streaming from Hulu.com, Amazon On Demand and other such movie providers.

    6. LG BD 370 Blu-ray Player (Price: $330)

This LG Blu-ray player comes equipped with NetCast Entertainment Access. You can stream video from Netflix, YouTube and CinemaNow. (CinemaNow is similar to Amazon Video On Demand) The LG BD 370 will quickly become a main asset to anyone’s Home Entertainment Network.

    7. Samsung BD-P1600/BD-P4600 Blu-ray Player ($229 – $499)

The Samsung BD-P1600 and BD-P4600 allows for Netflix and Pandora instant streaming, you can also listen to great tunes or watch your favorite movies. They are both Profile 2.0 Blu-ray players, bringing you great high-definition quality from using Blu-ray Discs. Connection to the internet is by an Ethernet port.

    8. Roku Digital Video Player ($99)

The Roku Digital Video Player is a very cheap way to bring streaming internet media to your Television set. It was released when Netflix launched its “Watch Instantly” program. You connect the player to your home network via an Ethernet cable and you can then select from a wide range of standard to high-definition connections to your television set. The Roku player supports Amazon On Demand as well, giving you another great choice on how to watch your movies. You will get more than 50,000 titles from Amazon Video On Demand and Netflix, with many available in HD.

    9. Vudu ($149)

Like Roku Digital Video Player, Vudu is a box you connect to your Television set giving you access to over 13,000 movies. Vudu can be a perfect addition to your home entertainment network. You can also listen to music from Pandora via Vudu Labs on your television set.

    10. Netflix ‘Watch Instantly’

Netflix subscribers who have plans of $8.99 or more can take advantage of Netflix’s “Watch Instantly” program, giving them access to over 12,000 movies. You can access this program through your Windows PC, Intel-based Macs, or a number of other devices such as Roku Digital Video Player, LG BD 370 Blu-ray Player, Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray Player, and Samsung BD-p4600 Blu-ray play.

    11. Amazon Video On Demand

Amazon’s Video On Demand has a current catalog of more than 40,000 titles to choose from, including HD movies and TV shows which are available for watching in the comfort of your living room. You can either purchase or rent these movies/TV shows and prices range from around $14.99 to $2.99. It provides a convenient way for you to watch High-definition quality movies and TV shows on your TV, all without ever having to leave the house. Amazon Video On Demand in HD is currently available on the following compatible devices, the Roku Digital Video Player, TiVo S3, the Sony DMXNV1 Bravia Internet Video Link, and Panasonic VIERA Cast enabled HDTVs.

    12. Hulu.com

Together, NBC Universal and News Corp have produced Hulu.com which provides full-length, DVD quality internet streams of movies and TV shows for FREE. Of course you do have to deal with a few 15 to 30 seconds commercials every now and then, but the benefits will outweigh this inconvenience for many viewers.

As you can plainly see by the variety and number of different ways you can access streaming movies and TV shows via the Internet; home entertainment is definitely going through a major transition and everyone wants in on the action and potential profits. The ordinary viewer has a whole array of options and choices when it comes to choosing the system that will deliver their streaming videos, movies and TV programs. It makes for a perfect marriage, now lets bring on the honeymoon.

Free Zune Movie Downloads? You Bet!

    May 4th, 2010

If you enjoy movies you might want to try downloading them to your Zune. Cinema fans like yourself are constantly searching for a new, more efficient way to acquire and entertain themselves with as much movie entertainment as possible. And many websites have been popping up that promise you can download legal free movies for Zunes.

Fortunately, there is a way to download legal free movies to your Zunes. The download process is the same as a music download, just the file size is increased. First you will need to find where to download the movies from in the first place, and usually this means some sort of subscriber website. With some subscriber accounts, they have a nominal one time setup fee and then all subsequent downloads are free. Others charge per download. Typically once you are set up with a network account, just follow the easy steps and you will be downloading movies to your zune in no time.

And not just movies! There are so many different games you can download to your Zune; sports, action, strategy, puzzles, driving, adventure, simulations and role-playing. The best sites will allow you to download music, games, images, wallpapers, screensavers, and software.

I have not experienced any major problems, although sometimes the downloads are slower than other times – it all depends on the load. Normally fast Loading! Download as many HD-quality movies, songs, and tv shows as you want for your Zune, plus get unlimited access to all the latest Zune downloads as soon as they are released. All the best content for your Zune is just a click away. Get an unlimited access pass and start downloading your favorite videos, music, themes, pictures, and more for your Zune in just a few minutes.

Your favorite TV shows will also be on the network so you will be busy for a long time! Look for your favorite shows, or even specific episodes. It is organized pretty well and the Zune download network has been a reliable method.

And you can’t beat the price. I myself prefer the one time fee and then not have to worry about ‘per download’ charges. If you like the portability and convenience of being able to carry your entertainment with you, then being able to easily download the content into it is a must. And the unlimited movie downloads for your Zune are a big plus.

Apple TV is on But Who’s Watching?

    May 4th, 2010

Something happens when a company becomes a major player in the technology field: great expectations. After producing two of the most beloved innovations of the past decade, the iPod and the iPhone, Apple now faces the additional burden of living up to its own hype. That, in part, can be seen as one of the reasons Apple TV has been a disappointment.

For those who haven’t heard about it (which may be a lot of people, judging by sales), Apple TV is a device that hooks up to a widescreen TV and plugs into a high-speed Internet connection (either wirelessly or via Ethernet cable). The device enables users to rent (or buy) movies from the iTunes Store and watch them on their big-screen TVs instead of just their computers. While that’s not the device’s only purpose, it seems to be its main one. A person also can use the Apple TV box to buy individual TV-show episodes, listen to music, view photos from Flickr, and watch YouTube videos.

The 2.5-pound Apple TV box is essentially a small computer and is available with a 40 GB hard drive (for $229) or a 160 GB hard drive (for $329). The box must be “linked” to a computer so it can work through that person’s iTunes Store account. With Apple TV, a person can rent a movie instantly from iTunes and have it downloaded onto the Apple TV box. HD movies cost $4.99 to rent (for new titles) and $3.99 for older titles, while standard-definition movies are $3.99 and $2.99. Apple designed the Apple TV system to encourage people to download movies, but the major problem with the device is that it doesn’t really give people an incentive to do so.

According to most reviews, the quality of HD movies from Apple TV is decent, but nowhere near as good as Blu-ray. And the selection of movies currently available (in HD or SD) is severely limited (still in the hundreds), despite the fact that Apple has agreements with all the major studios. For regular renters, NetFlix offers greater variety and a better price – though renters have to wait to get DVDs in the mail or watch movies on the computer. And, for those who want immediacy, renting movies through a cable On Demand service may cost a dollar more – but it eliminates download time (which, for HD movies can take a few hours) and the need to spend a couple hundred dollars on an Apple TV box. Users also can get cable DVR or TiVo to record TV shows rather than pay $1.99 to rent episodes from iTunes.

So, while Apple TV may offer a lot of different services, it’s doesn’t offer anything better than what’s already out there. In fact, the greatest benefit of Apple TV may be the ability to look at Flickr photos or watch YouTube videos on a big screen. While the iPhone and iPod revolutionized cell phone use and portable music, Apple TV, in its current incarnation, hasn’t really improved the movie-rental experience. And, until it does, this little white box remains the black sheep of the Apple family.
